WHEN IS A HOUSE MOVE NOT A HOUSE MOVE AT ALL?

Hello from Brooklyn!

So this crazy year keeps throwing up curveballs. After getting knocked out by Covid for a good two weeks, we could finally do a small house renovation that’s been planned for nearly ten years.

We live in a three-story Brooklyn rowhouse and have rented out the top floor to help pay the mortgage since we bought it a decade ago. Well, we finally reached the point where our kids are so big we asked our tenant to leave. After that we moved house, but within the same building! It might not sound too much, but I had to fix a ton of issues, redo a bathroom and move all the furniture, beds, clothes etc between floors. It was an intense two weeks, but the end results are great, as hopefully can see from the pictures below :)

Inevitably this has cut into my writing time, but after the pandemic I’m really trying to prioritize my family. no matter how much I want to carry on with John Risk’s adventure in Latin America!

Right now I am thirty-five thousand words into that book (around one hundred pages) and making excellent if slow progress. One reason my books take so long is the amount of plotting and detail that go into them. This photograph shows you a few notes from my recent sketchbook. It might not look like much, but this is three days work! That’s right, I had to work out not only John’s timeline, but his father’s timeline, and his grandfathers. If you read The Genesis Engine you know he’s a combination of multiple memory systems and I really needed to know his family history. I can’t wait for you to read it!

The Johnathon Risk Family Timeline … from 1925 through 2060 …

As we are about to enter a glorious spring (in the US anyway) I thought I’d share some more free science fiction stories for you. I’ve tried this time to provide a wide variety of work, so check them out and let me know which ones you love!
