Deadly Enhancements - A new story, a new podcast and a red shirt? Make it so!

Hello From Brooklyn! I have my second new story of the year released this week (and it will be the last new work from me in 2022) This story, ‘Industrial Intelligence’, contains excerpts from the diary of Hamilton Risk, one of the people racing to invent the world’s first artificial intelligence. As Hamilton is the Lord of Arran, rich and traditionally minded, this is quite the journey for him. It reflects on the change from young socialite to old man who sees the error of his ways. I’m very proud of it, and I think you’ll really enjoy it as well! The story is part of the Deadly Enhancements anthology, where thirteen visionary authors present versions of tomorrow seeking to answer those questions and explore the dark side of what was supposed to be a bright future.

Apart from that it’s been a crazy busy month here in Keen towers, with a particular highlight being Halloween. Brooklyn has such a high density it’s always a party and as you can see from the photograph, both Milo and I went as security officers from Star Trek The Next Generation! (Patrick Stuart was also out in disguise in Brooklyn, but I think we missed him this time…)

I admit to missing TNG when it was first shown (I was in college and just never got the time.) Following advice we skipped the first season and dived straight into season 2. The show is an absolute blast with great writing, characters and actors—although I’m sure you already knew that! Right now we are just about to watch ‘The Best Of Both Worlds’ which is regarded as one of the best episodes. Let me know which one is your favorite!

Finally this month I was honored to appear on the fantastic podcast ‘Alternate Futures’: where I had a ninety-minute discussion covering everything from my upbringing in Macclesfield, to what architecture will be like on Mars, to when and how the first AI will be created. I think it’s a great conversation and I’m sure you will love it. The easiest place to find and share it is to click the image below:

Phew! That’s enough from me today. I’m about to collect my Hasbro ‘Aliens’ pulse rifle - photos next month!

Have fun, enjoy the fall, and see you soon,

J.
